Conway Community Band starting new season

The Conway Community Band is gearing up for its new summer season.


Starting this Saturday, the group will host free and public concert for the community at the Kris Allen Stage in Simon Park in downtown Conway.

Guests can bring their lawn chair, a blanket or even a picnic.

“The purpose and mission of the Conway Community Band is to afford any individual, regardless of age or income, who previously or currently plays a band instrument, an outlet to perform in rehearsal and public performance, to foster community spirit through free public concerts in a family-oriented environment and to promote the enjoyment of music for the people of Conway and surrounding communities,” a news release stated.

The community band is sponsored by Virco and hosted by the Conway Downtown Partnership. It also receives support through several other local corporate sponsors including the Conway Area Chamber of Commerce and the Log Cabin Democrat.

The concerts start at 7:30 p.m.

Dates for the events are May 20, June 9 and June 30.

A Look Back: Community Bands

On Memorial Day, we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice to defend our country and preserve liberty and freedom. It was in 1971 when Congress passed the National Holiday Act which designated the last Monday of May as a federal holiday to honor those who died defending our country.
