A new band rehearsal space will soon be added to the Central Baptist College campus.
CBC officials announced Monday that the 4,000 square foot renovation to the Harold E. Cooper Educational Complex, which accommodates the new space, would begin soon and the remodel is set to be completed by the start of the Spring 2018 school year.
The band rehearsal hall will be 2,600 square foot and will accommodate 75 students.
Included in the renovations will be new and remodeled office space dedicated to the Fine Arts Department.
Construction costs are being paid for through an anonymous donation to CBC.
Tim Gunter, the director of bands, said the new addition means more than words.
“Our band has already outgrown the stage in Burgess Auditorium and we would not have had a place to rehearse in the fall of 2018,” he said.
Gunter said the project also gives the campus another large gathering space.
“God’s timing is amazing and always perfect,” he said of the needed space.
Gunter said the band has grown from the more than 10 members its first rehearsal in Aug. 18, 2016, to the 30 that are currently participating.
“To think that we began this journey in January 2016 and that we have already doubled in size and have a band hall under construction is humbling and exciting,” he said. “The vision was from our President and his people, but the blessings are from God.”
Gunter said the new space will help attract potential students to the CBC campus and its growing band.
“CBC is a special place and I look forward to what the Lord has in store for us,” he said.
Liz Hamilton, AIA owner of H+N Architects in Conway, will be serving as the architect for the project. Clark Construction, LLC of Little Rock will be serving as the contractor.
