A Faulkner County jury has sentenced Jonathan William Thacker of Conway to 18 years for rape and 5 years for residential burglary.

Thacker, 34, was arrested on Sept. 17, 2012 after he turned himself in for questioning in a reported burglary/rape at a Conway home on Sept. 14, 2012. The victim claimed that a man she later identified from a photo as Thacker broke into her home and sexually assaulted her.

She was able to escape through a window and called police from a neighbor’s house at about 3:40 a.m. She later identified Thacker as her attacker to police after seeing his driver’s license photo. A neighbor also told police that a man was seen leaving the victim’s  house and gave a description of this man consistent with Thacker.

“In this particular case, the man who refused to turn a deaf ear to his neighbor’s plight was an absolutely critical component of a successful prosecution,” 20th Judicial District Prosecutor Cody Hiland said on Friday. “I think our community should take comfort in the fact that one less violent offender is on our streets, and that he is headed to prison.”

Hiland also credited “the consistently professional work by our law enforcement officers like CPD Detective David Short” and “just, knowledgeable jurors” in getting the conviction.

Deputy Prosecutor Carol Crews represented the state in the trial. Defense attorney Danny Rasmussen represented Thacker.

The jury recommended, and the judge ordered, that the sentences run concurrently.
