Burnside trial on schedule

In court, Monday, the jury trial of Matthew Burnside, 45, of Greenbrier, remained on schedule for July 29-30.

Burnside is accused of the rape of a person younger than 14.

He is charged with two counts of rape, a class Y felony, and one count of second-degree sexual assault, a class B felony.

His case was filed with the court in September 2012.

At one time his lawyer sent a motion to the court requesting permission to withdraw as counsel, because Burnside had refused to respond to phone calls and other forms of communication, failed to cooperate with his attorney in preparation for the case and had breached contract with his attorney.
