Quitman and Mount Vernon were among 18 Arkansas cities to receive Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) awards from the Department of Transportation.
“The Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) provides funding for programs and projects defined as ‘transportation alternatives’ for pedestrians, bicyclists and other non-motorized forms of transportation,” DOT spokesman Krista Sides said in a news release. “It was authorized by the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act. It is a reimbursement-type grant program that provides for an 80 percent federal share and a 20 percent local match from eligible applicants.”
Quitman will receive $100,000 in federal funding to complete phase III of its Safe Route Sidewalks.
Mount Vernon will receive $168,000 in federal funds for its Downtown Sidewalk Improvement Project.
More than $3.4 million was awarded in total for the 18 TAP projects.
