Local production airing in conjunction with Ken Burns’ ‘The Vietnam War’

“Barnes and … A Conversation With Col. Karen Lloyd” will air on the Arkansas Educational Television Network Monday, Oct. 9, at 6:30 p.m.

Steve Barnes visits with retired Col. Karen D. Lloyd, director of the Veterans History Project at the Library of Congress. She oversees the direction of activities of the Library of Congress to ensure the collection, preservation and accessibility of the personal testimonies of American war veterans.

Lloyd was commissioned as a Medical Service Corps (MSC) officer in Dec. 1976 upon graduating as a Distinguished Military Graduate from Indiana University. She served 14 years as an Army aviator, with six of those as a MSC Dustoff pilot, and was the first female MSC officer to receive aviator wings. In 1986, Lloyd transferred to the aviation branch and commanded the Grafenwoehr Army Airfield and flight detachment. She served 14 years as a comptroller in a variety of positions. Lloyd retired as a colonel in Dec. 2004 after 28 years of service.

The conversation was filmed during Lloyd’s recent visit and panel discussion for a preview screening of Ken Burns’ “The Vietnam War” at the Fayetteville Public Library.

“Barnes and … A Conversation With Col. Karen Lloyd” will repeat Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 10 p.m.
