City seeks 10 for 2018 boards, commissions

Conway officials announced 10 openings on five local boards/commissions for 2018.

 

“All interested parties must reside within the city limits of Conway and be willing to attend all meetings,” Executive Assistant Felicia Rogers said in a news release. “Nominations will be accepted from the individual interested in serving or from another person wishing to nominate the individual.”

The Conway Planning Commission has two open spots.

“The new commissioners will serve a 5 year term and will become part of the ten person Planning Commission which hears requests and makes recommendations to the City Council concerning zoning, conditional uses, annexations and the moving of buildings,” the release reads in part.

The commission typically meets at 7 p.m. the third Monday of each month.

The Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Board (BPAB) seeks four people to each serve three-year terms.

“Three members will be at large positions and the other must represent the Conway Public School District,” according to the release.

BPAB consists of 11 members and normally meets at 6 p.m. the third Thursday of each month.

One five-year term is open on the Oak Grove Cemetery Board.

“The board is currently looking for someone who is interested in helping to preserve local history,” the release stated.

It usually meets at 5:30 p.m. on the third Monday of each month.

The Conway Historic District Commission has two openings, which will each be three-year terms.

“One member is an at large position and the other must represent Pine Street Community Development Corporation,” Rogers said in the release, adding that the commission generally meets the fourth Monday of each month “or when necessary.”

There is one opening for a four-year term on the Public Art Board.

“Each member shall demonstrate a positive interest in the field of art and be willing to participate in local community events, such as ArtsFest,” the release stated.

The board typically meets at 5 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month or when necessary.

The nomination form is available at www.cityofconway.org. All terms start Jan. 1, 2018.

The deadline to apply is Oct. 31.
