Police: 'Person of interest' still sought in apartment shooting

Conway police are still looking for a “person of interest” in Friday’s shooting.

On Friday afternoon, an 18-year-old man who had been shot “multiple times” inside an apartment at the Chapel Ridge apartment complex ran outside and knocked on doors until someone let him use their phone to call 9-1-1.

The man told police that he was in the apartment to buy drugs, but the deal soured and he ended up getting shot. He was taken to Conway Regional and then to UAMS in Little Rock on Friday. None of his injuries appeared to be life threatening, CPD reported on Friday. He was in fair condition at UAMS as of Monday afternoon.

Police have named 22-year-old Steven Banks as a “person of interest.” Anyone who knows where he may be can contact CPD through its anonymous text-a-tip service by sending a text to CRIMES (274637) and using the keyword “CONWAY” at the beginning of the message.

Arkansas court records show no previous violent offenses by Banks, and only one misdemeanor offense for possession of marijuana in 2013 for which he got a fine and a 14-day suspended sentence.
