The Cabin’s own Crystal Geraldson pulled out all the stops for this amazing sweet treat. She begins with a little craving of sugar and ends with a healthy dollop of American pride for this dish. The perfect after barbecue treat for those with a sweet tooth.
Stars and Stripes Trifle
1 Angel Food Cake (torn into pieces)
2 8-oz pkg. of cream cheese (bring to room temp)
1/2 cup of confectioner’s sugar
1 large bowl of Cool-whip
4 cups of Strawberries (sliced)
1 cup of Blueberries
3 Tbsp sugar
Preparation: Tear angel food cake into 1-inch pieces. In separate bowl, slice strawberries and add 2 tablespoons of sugar, stir till all berries are covered. In separate bowl cover washed blueberries with 1 Tablespoon of sugar and stir until all berries are covered. In yet another bowl, mix (with a mixer) the room-temperature cream cheese and the confectioners sugar until well mixed; add 3/4 of the cool whip to that mixture and fold it in until color is consistent.
In trifle bowl, layer: Cake then cream cheese mixture then strawberries for a total of 2 layers. Then on the 3rd layer, use cake, cream cheese mixture then blueberries. Top with remaining cool whip for a thing layer on top.
Slice a few strawberries on top for appearance.
Let refrigerator for 20-30 minutes before serving.
