Crews have been searching Beaverfork Lake since Friday night looking for a fisherman who they fear may have drowned Friday afternoon when a brief but strong windstorm swept through the area.
Authorities are looking for John Sanders, who recently retired from the Conway Sanitation Department.
District Chief Bill Keithley of the Conway Fire Department said the Fire Department and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission arrived at Beaverfork Lake first thing Monday morning to continue the search effort.
“We’re still in search mode,” he said.
Keithley said there are a total of three search boats on the lake assisted by additional search efforts along the shoreline.
The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission are using sonar technology to aid in the search.
Keithley said unless search crews found Sanders Monday, the search effort will continue.
Heavy rains have caused the lake’s water temperature to drop, Keithley said, which may be preventing Sanders from surfacing.
“The rain doesn’t shut us down as much as the lightning,” Keithley said. “The lightning is our biggest concern.”
The search effort was scheduled until dusk Monday, but if severe weather moves into the area, Keithley said, crews will have to “shut it down,” and continue Tuesday.
