In their book, “Pain: The Gift Nobody Wants” Dr. Paul Brand and Philip Yancey discuss the transformative power of physical pain. Dr. Brand, the son of a Missionary, got a firsthand look at the destructive power of leprosy due in part to its ability to mute physical pain. It seems that leprosy destroys nerve endings and without the ability to feel, the affected extremities are subjected to further damage. This explains the book’s title in describing pain as a “gift.”

There is an old saying that goes, “There is no fool like an old fool” and I certainly have to plead guilty. This is because I have just gone through a painful and time-consuming ordeal that was probably unnecessary, if I had just listened to my wife.
