$2,000 award to local students

The Shelter Insurance Foundation and Fred and John Tate awarded Linzy Marie Hoelzeman of St. Joseph, and Ellen Marie Huckabay of Conway High School a $2000 scholarship. The scholarship is paid directly to the recipient’s school.

Applicants were selected by a committee of local high school officials and leaders who looked for qualities of “scholastic achievements, educational goals, citizenship, moral character, and participation and leadership in school and community activities,” according to the press release.

Freshman Academy partners with UALR for concurrent credit

The Vilonia Board of Education, at the May meeting, gave the nod of approval to enter a partnership with the University of Arkansas Little Rock providing incoming ninth graders, entering the Freshman Academy, an opportunity to earn concurrent college credit and ultimately graduate high school with an associate’s degree.
