Men make music for tornado victims

Posted: May 1, 2014 - 11:31am

Reynolds Performance Hall teemed with eager voice artists Tuesday when Conway Men’s Chorus presented the 17th annual Spring Pops Concert. Hundreds of people were in attendance to support the young men. In response to the tornado disaster, Sunday, the choir dedicated the concert to the families affected by the storm.

The young men hoped to raise the spirits of a broken community with song. Providing music to the victims offered “strength, courage, and hope,” to the victims, said Mike McCullars, chorus chairman.

In addition, the chorus also established a donation site in Reynold’s to raise funds for those affected by the storm. Over $1,200 was raised to donate to the United Way of Central Arkansas’ Tornado Relief Fund.

“We did this, not for our recognition, but because we felt that it was the right thing to do,” said McCullars, “we are very thankful to all who so generously donated money to help their friends and neighbors in central Arkansas who are hurting right now. Most of us cannot go and work with the cleanup efforts, but we can at least do this much. The men of the chorus are humbled by so much being given to help those in need.”
