Mayflower’s water system is under a precautionary boil order until further notice, said Kerry Krell, public information officer for the Arkansas Department of Health.
This means that residents who are supplied by Mayflower Water Works should bring tap water to a rolling boil for one minute before drinking, preparing food and washing dishes, she said.
The water is safe for personal hygiene practices, such as showering with soap, Krell said, just take care not to swallow any water while showering.
Although, if one is washing his or her hands to prepare food, Krell said, bottled water or tap water that has been boiled and then cooled must be used.
“For brushing teeth, you should used boiled then cooled tap water, or bottled water,” she said.
Mayflower Water Works and the Health Department will notify residents when the boil order is lifted.
Vilonia’s water system is not under a boil order, Krell said.
