Greenbrier Junior High School received the Gold Award for the 2013-14 Arkansas Green Schools Challenge last week.
This is the third year the Arkansas Green School Challenge has been rewarded. The Arkansas Association of Educational Administrators (AAEA) and The United States Green Building Council (USGBC) power the challenge.
“The program pairs a USGBC professional mentor with a student team with the challenge to “Green Your School.” Schools work with their mentors from October to March to choose a project, plan and implement it, and submit their results to USGBC,” said the press release.
More than 80 schools participated in this years challenge, but only 3 primary and 3 secondary schools were awarded. To receive the award, students must be creative and innovative. Some projects submitted included community recycling projects to designing outdoor classrooms.
