Police beat 4/10/14: Thieves, thieves and more thieves

Posted: April 10, 2014 - 8:04pm

Among reports recently released by the Conway Police Department:

Theft of property at 3900 Dave Ward Drive (Walmart).

A resident reported that she dropped her wedding ring off at the Walmart jewelry counter to be re-sized. On Tuesday, while a Walmart employee’s back was turned, apparently, a thieving customer took it.

Theft of Property at 2300 Prince Street (Conway High School).

On Wednesday a resident reported that he was at his son’s soccer game last Friday, and a thief took his white iPhone 4S. The phone “pinged” at a specific address in the northern Lake Conway area.

Theft of property at 1825 East Oak Street (Mike’s Guns and Ammo).

At some point between 3:30 and 6 p.m. Thursday a thief took a metal sign outside the business that reads “Concealed Carry Friendly — All Weapons for Repair or Appraisal Must Be Empty.” The report gives no indication why.

Shoplifting at 2100 block of Harkrider Street.

Thinking it odd that a man should be pushing a shopping cart full of vacuum cleaners down Harkrider Street at around midnight Tuesday, officers decided to investigate. The man turned out to be homeless, having last had an address in Little Rock, and he told police that he got the vacuum cleaners from Walmart. Walmart was contacted and discovered that two display-model vacuum cleaners were missing. They were the ones in the cart, according to the report, which were returned to the store. The man was arrested on suspicion of theft of property.

Vehicle break-in at 400 block of 6th Street.

Victim reported that at some point between 8 p.m. on Monday and 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday a thief or thieves got into her car and stole some sunglasses. The car might have been unlocked. Whoever the thief or thieves were, they rifled through things and, for some reason, left some paperwork from the car by the door of her home.

Vehicle break-in at 600 block of 3rd Avenue.

Victim reported that at some point between 9:45 and 10 a.m. a thief or thieves got into his car, a few blocks away from the 6th Street break-in, rifled through things, and ended up taking a credit card and a USMC ID card.

Possible theft at 1300 block of Clifton Street.

A resident reported that he went to work Tuesday morning and got a text from his landlord saying that he needed to pay rent, which was “due a few days ago,” according to the report. The resident came home to find that his house had been cleared out and, as of the time he filed his report with police, he couldn’t get in touch with the landlord. The resident said that he was in the process of moving out at the time.
