Council votes 7-0 to deny Prince St. apartment rezoning

Posted: April 9, 2014 - 5:15pm

After a good deal of public input, the Conway City Council voted unanimously to deny plans to rezone a half-acre for apartments across Prince Street from the Shady Valley and Turnberry subdivisions.

More than two dozen residents, mostly from Shady Valley, turned out to share concerns about traffic, drainage and privacy, since a two- or three-story apartment building on the hill would look down into some Shady Valley backyards.

Local attorney Beau Wilcox, who is representing the land’s owner, DT Real Estate, LLC, said after the vote that he and his client would weigh their options.

A door-to-door peddling license will continue to be discussed, with a draft in the works that City Attorney Mike Murphy hopes will satisfy the various interests involved, including Girl Scouts and school fundraising programs.
