CBC set to perform 'Show Boat'

Central Baptist College is inviting all who are interested to enjoy “Show Boat,” one of Broadway’s enduring classics, at a 2-night event directed by Suzanne Banister and performed by the Central Baptist College Music Department.

The public is invited to attend this event on Friday, April 11 and Saturday, April 12 both at 7 p.m. in the Burgess Auditorium of the Cooper Complex. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door.

Show Boat is a 1927 musical in two acts, with music by Jerome Kern and book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II. Based on Edna Ferber’s bestselling novel of the same name, the musical follows the lives of the performers, stagehands, and dock workers on the Cotton Blossom, a Mississippi River show boat. Its themes include racial prejudice and enduring love. The musical contributed such classic songs as “Ol’ Man River,” “Make Believe,” and “Can’t Help Lovin’ Dat Man.”
