The new Baptist Health System hospital site plan has passed through the Conway Planning Department, and Baptist Health officials hope that construction can begin this year.
A sewer line running under the property on United Drive, just south of Caldwell Toyota, will have to be relocated, and there are still several things to be finalized at city hall before the entire project is green-lighted for construction.
“It will bring jobs in and, hopefully, along with Conway Regional, it will be an alternative for people that would otherwise go to Little Rock for their medical needs,” city Chief of Staff Jack Bell said. “And the jobs it will bring in for the construction will be a good little boost for us too.”
The site plan has been approved as far as overall aesthetics and usability of the building, parking lots and landscaping. Further approval is required for things like Conway Corp. utilities, sanitation and fire marshall safety issues, and connectivity to city streets.
