Conway police confirmed state police are investigating an incident involving an infant who was taken to Arkansas Children’s Hospital with severe facial swelling and a skull fracture.

The child, listed in the Conway Police Department report as under one year old, was taken by ambulance from Conway Regional Medical Center to Arkansas Children’s Hospital.

Conway police were contacted by an Arkansas Children’s Hospital social worker who said the infant’s mother, a Conway woman, advised she “noticed an odd shape” to the infant’s head on Feb. 12, and then on Feb. 15 noticed his right eye had swollen shut.

The social worker told local police the mother of the infant said the baby had rolled off of a mattress and hit the floor approximately one week earlier. Arkansas Child Abuse Hotline, Arkansas State Police and ACH social workers are involved in the case, according to the report.

La Tresha Woodruff, public information officer for the Conway Police Department, said an arrest has not been made.
