Mashburn to represent Faulkner County in state spelling bee

Jake Mashburn, third grader at Vilonia Elementary, won first place in the Faulkner County Spelling Bee and will represent the county in the Arkansas State Spelling Bee.

The 2014 Faulkner County Spelling Bee was held Feb. 15 at James H. Clark Auditorium on the campus of Conway High School. Forty-five third-eighth grade students represented Faulkner County Schools at the annual event. The winner of the Faulkner County Spelling Bee represents the county and competes in the Arkansas State Spelling Bee at Reynolds Hall on the University of Central Arkansas campus on March 1.

Matthew Benert, an eighth grader from Vilonia Junior High, won second place and will serve as an alternate.
