Hendrix to host SOLI Chamber Music Ensemble

The Hendrix College Department of Music will host a recital by the San Antonio, Texas-based chamber music ensemble SOLI on Monday, Feb. 24 at 7:30 p.m. in Reves Recital Hall.

Celebrating its 20th Anniversary this season, SOLI has upheld its reputation for giving new voice to 20th and 21st century classical contemporary music and for its strong commitment to commissioning new works. Known for breathing life into the music of living composers, SOLI has twice been voted “Best Chamber Ensemble” by The San Antonio Current and continues to mesmerize audiences with its cutting edge performances around the country. SOLI has received numerous awards including 2013 CMA/ASCAP Adventurous Programming Award and grants from the Aaron Copland Fund for Music and the National Endowment for the Arts, among others.

The group consists of four musicians (Carolyn True, piano; Ertan Torgul, violin and managing director; David Mollenauer, cello; and Stephanie Key, clarinet), who will perform works by John Williams, Robert Xavier Rodriguez, and Johannes Brahms as part of the Harold Thompson Recital Series. For more information on the group, visit www.solichamberensemble.com.

The recital is free and open to the public. In addition to the recital, SOLI members will visit Hendrix music classes on February 25 and 26 as part of a brief residency. For more information, contact Hendrix music professor Dr. John Krebs at 501-450-1245 or krebs@hendrix.edu.
