Nominations accepted for Veteran of the Year

The Museum of Veterans and Military History in Vilonia will be honoring a Faulkner County Veteran of the Year and nominations are being taken now.

We encourage individuals and veteran organizations alike to nominate a veteran deserving of this honor, said Steve Hillman, museum board member. All applications from Faulkner County will be considered and from this group of nominees, one veteran will be chosen, Hillman said.

The application process is simple, Hillman said.

Share a bit about this veteran including name, years of service and branch of service. Please include why this veteran should be named the museum’s Veteran of the Year. We ask to receive a copy of their DD214, showing that they were honorably discharged. The person doing the nominating must include their name and contact information. Also, if photographs are available either current or from the past, we would encourage copies to be sent.

The deadline for submitting the application submissions for a veteran as a nominee for Veteran of the Year is Feb. 20, 2014.

The veteran chosen will be honored at the annual Vilonia Area Chamber of Commerce banquet in March. The veteran will also be invited to ride in the Vilonia Christmas parade. Nominations may be mailed to Museum of Veterans, P.O. Box 668, Vilonia, Arkansas 72173 or drop off the nomination at the museum 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., Fridays or Saturdays, at 13 S. College, in Vilonia. Also, you may send them via email to
