Conway First Church of the Nazarene held a Christmas “Meal in a Bag” giveaway during its worship service on Dec. 15, 2013. According to senior pastor Tim Britton, 89 local families received groceries and a ham to create a complete Christmas meal for their household.
“As we have journeyed through the Christmas season we have explored how ‘Christmas Changes Everything.’ We wanted this to be more than just a cute saying or sermon title, because at Conway Nazarene, we are convinced that Jesus makes all the difference. So we sought to find a way to be a blessing to our community, especially those in need,” said Britton.
Invitations to the “Meal in a Bag” giveaway were distributed several different ways, including through Soul Food Café Mission. Families who received the invitation had the opportunity to call the church office and reserve their spot for the giveaway. Then they attended the worship service on Dec. 15, where they received their Christmas “Meal in a Bag.”
Jill Steed, outreach coordinator at Conway Nazarene, expressed the church’s desire to seek additional ways to provide for the needs of the community through events such as the Christmas “Meal in a Bag” giveaway.
