Included in this Christmas Day edition of the Log Cabin Democrat is the Community Christmas Card, a special inside section bearing 3,139 names of community members who together share the burden of providing for Faulkner County students in emergency need.
If it’s a pair of glasses to see the board, a winter coat for the bus stop or warm shoes, when students are not starting out on the same level as their peers, they quickly fall behind the others.
This year’s total by Christmas is $12,482.81, up from around $6,000 in just days after organizers announced a record low in donations.
“We thank everyone who responded to our plea and the extension of the Community Christmas Card. Thank you to the loyal donors who make it possible for children who fall through the cracks to receive a helping hand,” said Richard Duke, Log Cabin Democrat editor. “Without your consideration, many students would go without through the school year.”
The Community Christmas Card is a yearly fundraiser facilitated by the Log Cabin Democrat.
All money collected is forwarded to area school counselors who are entrusted with their share to identify and then meet a student’s need on an individual basis.
The “Christmas money,” as it is called by educators, will be used year round on students.
A final extension has been granted if there are any who still wish to make an impact on a young life.
The last opportunity to be part of the Community Christmas Card will be Friday by 5 p.m.
The Community Christmas Card will be reprinted with the additional names on New Years Day.
“Together we can make a real difference to many, much more than we can make on our own. Thanks again for every dollar you gave this holiday season. You might make someone’s year,” said Duke.
To be included in the card and project, make donations by mail, online or at the Log Cabin office. Donations may be sent to Community Christmas Card, P.O. Box 969, Conway AR 72033, online at thecabin.net, or at the Log Cabin office at 1111 Main Street, Suite 102 in Federal Plaza in Conway.
