Locally created 'Ozark Christmas' to be featured Saturday morning

Posted: December 4, 2013 - 6:11pm

A special Christmas story, titled “Ozark Christmas,” will be read at a special event at Cross Creek Sandwich Shop Saturday morning.

“Ozark Christmas” is written by Caryn Southerland and illustrated by Jacob Beagley, both of Conway, and it tells the updated story of “The Night Before Christmas” with new characters who resemble a Santa-clad razorback known as Rayz and a few flying pigs, Pork Chop, Pigman, Ham Bone, Bacon and Boar-us.

Southerland wrote the story and brought in Conway High School graduate Beagley to bring the characters to life.

A reading for children will take place from 10-11 a.m. at Cross Creek. Hot chocolate and cookies will be served as well.

Copies of the book are being sold at Jennifer’s Antiques and at Bevy’s Custom Draperies.

“My greatest desire for you is that you could read (hopefully out loud) and laugh and then share both with a child — of any and all ages,” Southerland said.
