Fox's Den: Christmas events are heating up

Posted: December 2, 2013 - 5:01pm

Step into my den, pull up a comfy chair and a cup of tea and let’s chat.

Thanks to Elizabeth Black, retired public librarian, for calling in agreement with last week’s Fox’s Den. I laughed as she said she became a “head nodder” while reading my article and could not have agreed with me more. In fact, she told the story on herself that she would even keep the Christmas story books hidden in her library until the day after Thanksgiving. Just for your information, my Elf on a Shelf has appeared as of Friday and keeps moving around my house.

Mr. and Mrs. Santa are coming to town today at First Security Bank in Greenbrier. Pictures with Santa and Mrs. Clause, refreshments and prize drawings will be happening between 6 and 7:30 pm. Now is the time to get an early start on those Santa photos with the kids for Christmas.

I am told there will not be a community Christmas tree this year in Greenbrier. Perhaps the big fuss over a 54 foot tree for our neighbor scared Greenbrier? Last year a tree lighting ceremony was a joint venture with the Chamber and Lions club and they decided not to do it this year. That is Grinchy!  In fact, there is not even a nativity scene in front of City Hall yet. Aren’t those decorations supposed to go up the day after Thanksgiving?  Instead of shopping on Black Friday, decorating works for me. Where are the Greenbrier elves who do that?

Much is happening this week in Greenbrier. Check our Community Calendar. From Dickens to choirs to food, parade and band concerts. You can almost pick any night or day and find something worthwhile to open your Christmas season with joy, music and good food. Celebrate with joy!

‘Til next time, give me a call or drop me a line if you would like to chat ... bj
