Cause of abandoned house fire still being investigated, officials say

The Conway Fire Department said the investigation into an abandoned house fire near Hendrix College on Saturday is ongoing, however, foul play is not suspected.

Assistant Chief Mike Winter said investigators believed the fire, which was first observed by Conway police around 2:06 p.m., began in a back bedroom of the home.

Fire Marshal Division Chief Kenny Wiedower said he did not have an idea on when the investigation would be closed, but did not believe it would take much longer.

“We’re looking at several things,” he said.
