The fall 2013 issue of the Faulkner County Historical Society’s journal Faulkner Facts and Fiddlings has been published and is available for sale. The cost is $4, and they can be obtained from the county library on Tyler Street and at the Faulkner County Museum.
The issue pays tribute to Roxanna McGee Cole, great-great grandmother of Conway resident Daniel Allen. The article is a transcript of a letter from Mrs. Cole detailing the effects of the Civil War on residents of Ripley Mississippi, Mrs. Cole’s home at the time. Mrs. Cole was also an accomplished doll maker, and there are pictures of some of her dolls in the journal.
Other articles include an update about society activities, a message from Lynita Langley Ware on summer activities at the museum, “Rows and Rows” by Bill Thomas reflecting on the time he and his aunt visited her husband’s grave at Arlington National Cemetery. Conway teacher Sherry Tipps-Holder submitted a transcript of her interview with her father, “Arkansas to the Pacific Theater: Excerpts of WWII Memories of Sgt. Glendon L. Farmer.”
The award-winning Facts and Fiddlings has been published for over 50 years and has won awards in the past. County residents are invited to join the Faulkner County Historical Society for $15 by mailing that amount along with name and address to P.O. Box 731, Conway AR 72033. Membership information is contained in the issue. An upcoming society event is the annual meeting in March when the program theme will be genealogy.
