The Conway Branch of the American Association of University Women is accepting applications for its Mavis Standefer Scholarships for fall semester 2013. Applicants must be currently enrolled for 12 or more credits in at least their second year of college and working towards a baccalaureate or graduate degree at Central Baptist College, Hendrix College, or the University of Central Arkansas. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic record and financial need. Special consideration may be given to older-than-average students who have returned to college after an absence; who have earned a grade-point average of at least 2.80; and/or who are single parents of dependent children.
Applications for fall semester 2013 are available in the financial aid offices of the three colleges. Completed applications and attachments must be postal-mailed to the address on the application on or before Oct. 1.
Mavis Standefer Scholarships were established prior to 1999 in honor of a former Conway Branch member. In 1999 the program was generously endowed via the will of member Ruth Byrne Dotson, who herself had been a “non-traditional student. Because of the latter’s desire to help similar students, Conway Branch has increased the number and value of scholarships awarded each semester.
