Local Conway songwriters Jim Pollock and Terry B. Smith are no strangers to the “write,” which is how they describe the process of penning tunes. The two teamed up just over 18 months ago after meeting at a Little Rock songwriter showcase event. Pollock and Smith recently signed the first tune they wrote together with co-writer Sandy Ramos, “Bury Me With My Boots On” with Perpetual Music Group (PMG), a North Hollywood music publishing powerhouse in the film, television and advertising channels.
Their song “Boots” was also slated to queue in this fall’s season of the MTV reality show, “Buck Wild.” However, the show was canceled due to the death of one of the leading characters, Shain Gandee. Pollock says, “I’ll admit we were pumped when “Boots” was selected for the show. Then, we found out about the cancellation and why. Life is precious and I can’t imagine losing a friend or loved one like that. Needless to say, songwriting success becomes pretty insignificant given the circumstance.”
The duo writes together and with other songwriters throughout Arkansas, Tennessee, California, and Texas. Pollock and Smith have written with local artists such as Jason Campbell of Singletree and Matthew Huff, Lance Carpenter, and Micheal Lee Collins of Haven Hill. Pollock’s song “She Does,” co-written with Landon Dutton, is now seen in the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI) Top 40 Page at nashvillesongwriters.com. Top music industry professionals including publishing and record companies, independent artists, producers, film and t.v. music supervisors visit NSAI’s Top 40 Page to find material and new songwriters.
Through their affiliations with NSAI, Pollock and Smith study the craft of songwriting and frequently have their songs reviewed by pro evaluators. Both have been recognized as “Ones To Watch” at NSAI and have had multiple songs recommended for Publisher Luncheon events in Nashville.
Jim Pollock and Terry B. Smith both reside in Conway and are active members of the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI) and stay involved in the Nashville and local music scenes through “live” events, workshops, conferences and through a variety of co-writing relationships.
