A Russellville man says he was robbed, at gunpoint, Sunday night at Laurel Park by two black males when a drug deal went awry.
The 20-year-old victim said he drove from Russellville to the Conway park after friends told him he could buy marijuana from a dealer.
The victim told police he met the dealer, a black male in his mid 20s, when two black males, wearing hoodies and covering their faces with bandanas, approached him shortly afterward. The victim said the dealer said, “I don’t want any part of this,” and left the park.
The victim said he was forced on the ground by the robbers, who approached him from behind, and told to empty his pockets, as one of the males placed a gun to the back of his head.
The victim said the assailant said, “It’s been a while since I’ve shot anybody.”
The attackers then ran eastbound toward Caldwell Street, and the victim followed after, begging for his phone back, the police report states.
After failing to retrieve his phone, the victim said he ran to the Conway Regional Medical Center parking lot, in the 2300 block of Robinson Avenue, where he called police from an emergency phone.
Police made contact with the victim around 11:05 p.m.
The victim initially told police he was playing basketball with friends at the park, and was attacked by the robbers after his friends left. After investigating, police were able to disprove the victim’s claims.
After being taken to the police station for further questioning about the incident, and being read his rights, the victim admitted to being at the park to buy drugs.
The police report lists $140 worth of personal property was stolen in the robbery, including a Patagonia backpack, a wallet and $80 cash.
No arrests have been made, according to the police report.
