The investigation continues into what caused a Conway school bus to drive off the road, and into a ditch, Wednesday afternoon, but according to police, a stopped vehicle may have been the culprit.
The bus driver has told police she encountered the vehicle after going down a hill while northbound on South Donaghey Avenue near Stanley Russ Road and Ellen Smith Elementary School, police spokesperson La Tresha Woodruff said.
The driver stated she had picked up speed from the hill and attempted to brake, but swerved to miss the car when it seemed she would not be able to stop in time, Woodruff said.
The bus, carrying 54 children, ran into the ditch and struck a driveway culvert.
The accident caused some minor injuries to students, but none were transported for emergency medical care, assistant public information officer Sean Canady said Wednesday afternoon.
Woodruff said the accident report has not been finalized and was not sure when the investigation into the accident would be complete.
