The Conway Planning Commission’s subdivision committee met with a representative from the Village at Hendrix about a recent change of plans in development before the regular planning commission meeting Monday night.
The revised plans show a similar end product, but the development will occur at a slower pace than anticipated.
Lawrence Finn, Director of Construction Development with Hendrix College, said the school thought some of the plans — specifically Altus Street — were “a little ahead of their time.”
Safety was one concern the school had with students moving around campus.
“There was some safety issues they had with the road,” Finn said.
In the meantime, Finn said the road will not be dedicated in any way. Road improvements have been done. The developers plan to extend the parking lot at the end of the road and add signs to show it is still a private road.
“More or less we feel that any vehicular traffic that is traveling north on Harkrider will continue through the roundabout,” Finn said.
The major preliminary plat was approved by the commission in Nov. 2012.A new plat will be submitted as a minor plat approvable by the city’s planning director.
The minor plat shows a street lot that will be used as a private drive to get to a parking area. Later, the parking lot will be replaced with commercial structures and a public street will be constructed.
