Conway police say four children, ranging in age from one to eight years old, were left unattended in a vehicle Saturday afternoon while their mother went inside Ed’s Bakery.
Police responded to the scene at 250 Oak St. around 1:59 p.m., and made contact with the vehicle, which officers say was not running. Officers observed the four children in the vehicle, which had all windows rolled down halfway.
After talking with the children for a short time, officers say the mother, a 35-year-old Jacksonville woman, returned to the vehicle, and informed police she was only in the store for a few minutes. Police told the woman that a concerned resident had reported the unattended children in the vehicle, and also informed the mother it had taken 12 minutes for officers to respond to the scene.
The woman was made aware by officers of the dangers of leaving children unattended in the heat, but was not given a citation because “(she) responded quickly to my presence around the vehicle,” the police report states.
