New librarian positions make extended hours possible in three branches

Posted: June 21, 2013 - 9:06am

After the Faulkner County Quorum Court meeting on Tuesday, the court’s personnel committee met to approve three more full-time employees for the library system.

Justice John Pickett, who serves as chairman of the personnel committee, said the approval would allow new librarians to be placed at the Mayflower, Vilonia and Greenbrier branches. This means each of these branches would have two full-time employees and could have extended hours of operation.

Judy Lovell, assistant director of the library system, said she was very thankful for the additions.

“We will be expanding our hours probably by next week,” she said. “We needed another full time worker at Mayflower, Vilonia and Greenbrier to do this.”

The hours at those three branches will be 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.

Pickett said it was important for the committee to discuss the additions in June so the libraries would have a chance at extended hours while school was out. Lovell said the extended hours will be helpful in the summer but will also be in place after children go back to school.
