The Civil War in Central Arkansas is the theme of the annual meeting of the Faulkner County Historical Society set for Thursday, March 28 at 6:30 p.m. at the Faulkner County Library on Tyler Street.
Mark Christ, community outreach director for the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program will speak on The Little Rock Campaign of 1863.
Christ is a member of the Arkansas Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission and has written and edited several books on Arkansas history and the Civil War in Arkansas. The public is invited to the meeting along with society members, former members, and future members.
The cost for membership in the Faulkner County Historical Society is $15 per year, and a life membership for a person over 65 is $150. General membership includes the spring and fall issues of the journal, Faulkner Facts and Fiddlings, edited by Vivian Lawson Hogue.
The life membership entitles a member to a CD of the 1986 county history book, Faulkner County: Its Land and People. Anyone interested in county and state history can join and pay dues at the meeting.
Available at the meeting for purchase will be the fall 2012 issue of the Facts and Fiddlings which pays tribute to the county’s veterans at a special price of $8. Also available is the recent county history book by Dr. Roger Pauly, Historic Faulkner County: An Illustrated History, at a special price of $17. Refreshments will be served.
