Artists from across the University of Central Arkansas campus will have their work displayed this month in the Annual Student Competitive Exhibition.
The exhibit will open tomorrow and will have an opening reception Thursday. It will then remain open through March 28.
Director of the Baum Gallery Barclay McConnell said 170 works of art in various mediums were entered to be displayed. Artist David Lusk from Memphis came to judge the work and 64 were chosen to be displayed.
“It’s probably the best student competitive we’ve ever had,” McConnell said.
Earlier today, student gallery workers were putting the finishing touches on the exhibit, hanging pieces with accompanying information cards for viewers to learn more about the artists and their work.
Students who submitted work did not have to be from the art department, and McConnell said there was an impressive answer to the call for work.
“There are people from every class and the media is really diverse,” she said.
Several awards including Best in Show will be announced at Thursday’s opening reception. The reception will be from 5 to 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
There will also be live music by a percussion group from the Conway Symphony Orchestra.
The Baum Gallery is in McCastlain Hall on UCA’s campus. Visit www.uca.edu/art/baum for more information.
