The deadline for entering the Miss Vilonia Royalty Pageant is set for Monday, March 4.
“Every little girl wants to be a beauty queen,” said Jill Bonnema, executive officer of the Vilonia Area Chamber of Commerce, sponsors of the event. “This is a good first pageant. It’s good for building self-esteem and the titles are prestigious.”
The pageant, open to all girls ages 0-18, is to be held Saturday, March 9, at the Vilonia Primary School. Divisions include Miss (16-18); Teen Miss 13-15; Pre-Teen Miss 11-12; Jr. Miss 9-10; Little Miss 7-8; Petite Miss 5-6; Tiny Miss 3-4; Darling Miss 2 years old; Toddler Miss 12-23 months and Baby Miss 0-11 months.
“We are no longer having boy divisions,” Bonnema added. Winners will be asked to represent the city in parades, at other pageants and at city events. Another benefit, the winner of the Miss Vilonia division will receive a $250 scholarship to the school of her choice, Bonnema said.
“A lot of girls are looking for scholarship money right now,” she added.
Applications must be turned in no later than Monday, Bonnema also said. The entry fee is $40. While not required, contestants may also opt to participate in the photogenic category and sportswear divisions for and additional $20.
