Faulkner County may see a wintery mix weather today as freezing rain and sleet moves through the area.
The more serious icy weather is expect to strike around midnight, said Sean Clarke, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Little Rock.
Conway is in a Winter Weather Advisory from midnight until about 4 p.m. Thursday, according to a National Weather Service message issued at 8:17 this morning.
Already, Arkansas is seeing freezing weather, including snow to the south. Conway is expected to see some rain and possibly sleet during the day Wednesday and through Thursday.
Forecasters say snow and sleet are expected to hit northwest Arkansas starting Wednesday morning. The northern half of the state will likely see the worst of the storm late Wednesday or early Thursday.
The storm today is a precursor of worse weather coming, Clarke said.
"This is really just the first round of this system," Clarke said.
During the wee hours of Thursday, Conway area precipitation is expected to switch to sleet and freezing rain.
"Roads may become treacherous," according to the advisory.
Power outages are possible, especially in northwest Arkansas. That area could see up to 3 inches of snow and a half inch of ice, Clarke said.
By Thursday, high winds up to 25 miles per hour in northwest Arkansas could down power lines, Clarke said. The entire state is expected to be windy, he said.
Precipitation is expected to end by early evening Thursday, according to a weather service report.
In Faulkner County, the area may miss the large amounts of snow and ice. Clarke said the area could see a tenth of an inch of ice and a "dusting of snow."
