LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — A Senate committee is considering whether to make secret the list of Arkansans permitted to carry concealed handguns.
Republican Sen. Bruce Holland of Greenwood planned Tuesday to present to the Senate State Agencies and Governmental Affairs Committee his legislation exempting the concealed carry information from the state's Freedom of Information Act. Current law only allows the names and ZIP codes of permit holders to be released.
The current law is the result of a compromise struck in 2009 after legislators originally backed making the entire list secret.
Holland says he filed his proposal in response to a New York newspaper that published the names and addresses of permit holders last year after the Connecticut school massacre.

So law currently allows ownership of guns. Then someone FOI's that and publishes all New York gun permit holders' names, addresses, etc. So we have to protect our holders' info in order to have the right to protect our selves. So if the government can't take our guns, they'll just put our info out there so others can try to take them. Molon Labe
You do realize that Max
You do realize that Max Brantley and Crew at the Arkansas Times published the list of Arkansas Concealed Carry Holders back in 2009?
Don't get me wrong I'm all for this bill, as I am very pro 2A. I just don't get why it took something happening in New York 3 years after it happened here to make headlines locally.
Do you know where one might
Do you know where one might find it?
Did not know about the 2009
Did not know about the 2009 release, and I don't know if the legislature tried to pass anything similar back then.
I think the New York release is probably just a recent example of how something tragic happened, and then the list was "coincidentally" released afterward, all during the volatile debate of stricter gun control.
But yes, back to your point, if it would have been headed off back in '09, then it would not be an issue now.
No, I don't know where to
No, I don't know where to find it. A quick google search found some stories and reaction to the Arkansas Times publishing the list, but it looks the actual story has been taken down.
I just wish people in this state would pay attention to local issues and not wait for the national headlines to make them want to take action.
For instance, all of you who are pro 2A did you know there is a bill that has been filed in the state that would allow staff to concealed carry at Arkansas colleges? Look up H.B. 1035.
And most importantly contact your elected officials.
I did know about that bill
I did know about that bill actually. I remain on my earlier standpoint. Anyone who is doing it right should be able to carry anywhere and no one should know.. The problem would be that, for instance say at UCA there was an active shooter and someone took him down. Then the savior would be thrown down to the gutters with the shooter...
