Conway school locks down when dad delivers backpack

Conway Junior High School was briefly placed on lockdown at around 10 a.m. Friday after students told a teacher they saw a man attempt to gain entry to the school through locked doors near Duncan Street.

Police said following the “level 2 lockdown” and search for the man based on the students’ description, it was discovered he was a parent of a student at the school who was on campus to deliver the student’s backpack.

“At five minutes to 10 a man walked up from Duncan Street and tried to pull open three doors that were locked,” said La Tresha Woodruff, Conway Police Department public information officer. “Some girls saw him try to open the door and they ran and told someone.”

Woodruff said school resource officers checked the area, and it was reported a subject fitting the students’ description was seen leaving the campus on foot.

Woodruff said police later received reports the subject fitting the description provided, that of a white male in camouflage and wearing a backpack, was seen near Tyler Street and Donaghey Avenue.

Woodruff said this report could not be confirmed Friday afternoon.

The parent contacted police, Woodruff said, after he received a text message from his child telling him the school was on lockdown because someone tried to get inside the building.

“He knew it was him, and he contacted authorities,” Woodruff said.

Woodruff said a level 2 lockdown means no one is allowed in or out of the school, and all doors are locked.

"What attempted clever, anecdotal and useless observations do you or ucantbeserious want to contribute to this article now?"

This coming from the person joking about it being a pastor back when this gentleman's identity/intentions were not yet known. Yeaaaaaah.

Why didn't he

Stay and go around to the open door by the office? It is good the school reacted as they did.

How did the girls see him if

How did the girls see him if he was wearing camoflauge????

I guess the student needing the backpack didn't need it that bad.... And what kind of moron doesn't realize you check in at the main office? It's been that way since I was in grade school MAAANY years ago before all the guns and school shootings and all that stuff was an issue (probably because kids got their butts wore out back then).

I maintain my original stance on this, something's fishy.... Oh and also that CPD didn't respond quick enough...

and this is ....

what you do in response to getting a ticket you think you didn't deserve. I bet you got those CPD guys good there! I'm sure this will probably ruin the rest of their day knowing they didn't meet your unreasonable expectations by solving the incident later instead of having the answer when they initially called for help. Maybe they could start hiring psycics and they can answer phones telling you what your name is and what your problem is. Awesome can't wait!
