Threat for severe weather this afternoon and night

Posted: January 29, 2013 - 2:40pm

LITTLE ROCK (KATV, Log Cabin Democrat media partners) -

There is a threat for severe weather across the state late this afternoon and tonight as a strong cold front moves into the region.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed most of Arkansas in a Moderate Risk area for severe weather. Northwest Arkansas is in a Slight Risk area.

It is quite likely that a line of storms will form and move across the state from late this afternoon through the evening hours. The main threat right now appears to be damaging, straight line winds and some flash flooding, but we cannot rule out an isolated tornado.

This line of storms will move into eastern Arkansas late tonight before exiting around midnight. Colder, drier weather will follow for the remainder of the week.
