Conway Corp. cable subscribers will have an uptick in their rates beginning in March.
The adjustment, on the average, is about $5.50 a month, $3.50 for cable and $2 for Internet.
In making his presentation to the Conway Corp. board on Tuesday, Tracy Moore, Manager of Accounting, Compliance and Risk Management, said that since December 2010, retransmission and programming fees for standard and digital products have increased more than $2 million, or 30.5 percent.
“We knew we had to go up on our rates; we have no choice,” Moore said.
“But we are going up the bare minimum.”
The impact of the adjustments will just about meet the increases in costs that, for instance, include higher rates for Fox Sports SW, Fox Cable TV Networks and A&E.
Construction of a head-end facility at $3.2 million will deplete the department’s reserve, Moore said.
Crystal Kemp reported that some channels will be added to the array this year, including the Game Show Network, and TV One, “Where Black Life Unfolds.”
She also said that the “friends” of Conway Corp’s Facebook page grew from 700 to 1,200 during the snow event on Christmas Day and after.
CEO Richie Arnold said the company is working with Connect Arkansas to offer a modem and an internet discount to households that have children eligible for the National School Lunch Program.
In other business, the board heard from Chief Operating Officer Tommy Shackelford that the company had a record year in water sales due to the drought.

Speaking of cable, I remember back in the day that you had to upgrade from the basic cable because of the Beavis and Butthead controversy. That show is tame by today's standards!
I don't know if it possible, but if the Conway Corporation could get the council to pass an ordinance that gave an automatic 2% adjustment every year they wouldn't have to keep addressing individual rate changes.
Cable rates
The city council forfeited their authority to set cable rates a few years ago. It is now in the hands of the Conway Corp board of directors.
cable and internet
im thinking they should consider people on disibility.every dollar counts.and,we can barely make it as it is.keeping in mind,we have! to have basic cable,to even watch tv, as far as internet, yes i have basic internet also.but! considering i am disabled, with no car-thats all i have to do.they give us a cost of living raise and, everything! goes up.leaving us with less than the raise.
believe me! i wish i could work! but, this is the hand i was delt.
give the people on disibility a break, for once!
cord cutting
Just a friendly reminder that over-the-air broadcasts are free, and hulu, netflix, and others let you watch lots of shows for far less than cable.
Well if they're going up on price
They need to up the quality of product. Conway Corp is one of the worst ISP's I've ever had.....
how so?
how so?
Speed
The speed is terrible...... Even for basic they advertise "speeds up to 4mb down".. I realize this is in no way a promise that you will get 4mb down... but I've never even pulled 1mb down... Honestly 1-2mb down is MORE than fine for 95% of users, and I've had ISP's with speeds like that before and it was more than fine for 6 people all playing online games. Considering I don't even play online games anymore except the occasional game of battlefield with some old buddies from college, and it's just terrible....
well
I don't know of any ISP that consistently operates at exactly max speed.
They are ALL guilty of false advertising in that regard, in my opinion.
I would recommend RG-6 cable and no splitters running to your modem, it definitely makes a difference in signal strength.
I did with Charter. I paid
I did with Charter. I paid for 60mbps and got closer to 75 or 80mbps for years.
Of course this is highly situational and not to be expected - a lot of people in the same city complained of slower speeds than advertised.
But then again most Internet subscribers have very little need for speeds above 20mbps, and I'd wager most ISP subscribers actually couldn't even tell you what their average speed is.
and
your mileage will vary and weight loss results are not typical.
I do love some fast internets tho. 75 mbps? I now have download-envy.
