Winter storm costs could be passed on to Entergy customers

Posted: January 3, 2013 - 10:03am

LITTLE ROCK (KATV) — The winter storm is over but Entergy customers could still be paying for it.

Over 260,000 Entergy Arkansas homes and businesses were put in the dark by the Christmas winter storm.

Entergy Arkansas brought in 5,000 workers from 15 states to handle the power outages.

Spokesperson Julie Munsell said the cost adds up quickly.

"Obviously there's costs associated with them being here, the work that they do, the equipment that has to be deployed," Munsell said.

That cost may be passed on to Entergy customers, according to Munsell.

God bless Conway Corp

Yes, I could have paid less for a house in Vilonia, but by the time you factor in utilities and the commute, it's cheaper to live in Conway. My lights did not even blink during this huge storm. Conway Corp ROCKS!

If they winter proofed their

If they winter proofed their infrastructure (underground powerlines that trees can't fall on) from the get go, then they wouldn't be in this pickle.

Instead of being proactive and taking precautions against this and other like-problems happening again, they're being reactive to the situation and just patching things back up, only for it to happen again next year.

It isn't acceptable to have inferior infrastructure compared to other regions for the sake of some small costs. We need more players in the Arkansas energy market that can offer their own competing infrastructure to keep Entergy in check.

(I'm with Conway Corp, but that's no excuse for Entergy to not pick up their game.)
