Walk-in registration for music classes start Thursday.

Posted: January 2, 2013 - 8:42pm

UCA’s Community School of Music (CSM) is registering students for the Spring 2013 semester, according to Jann Bryant, director, in a news release.

Special Walk-in Registration hours are Jan. 3, 4 and 7 from 7:30 a.m. to noon and 1-6 p.m. in the UCA Snow Fine Arts Center, room 203. Normal office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to noon and 1-5 p.m. Instruction will begin the week of Jan. 14 and classes are set up on a 13-week semester unless otherwise noted.

The Community School provides adults and children in the central Arkansas area with an opportunity to pursue music study in a university setting. Private lessons are offered in piano, voice, harp, guitar, fiddle, mandolin, and all the band and orchestral instruments. Suzuki violin is also offered for the young learner. Group lessons are available in pre-piano instruction for Kindergarten through second-grade students and Youth and Adult Beginner Guitar Classes.

Auditions are also being held Jan. 12 and 19 for the Central Arkansas Children’s Choir for grades 4-9, and the new Youth Choir for 10-12 graders. Contact the CSM office for details and to schedule an audition.

Newly added this year are lessons in the Alexander Technique, which promote prevention and recovery from injury and tension headaches, overcoming strain from repetitive movement, and helping students find inner balance and reduce the affects of stress or pain.

Students may register by mail, fax or e-mail, or register in person in the CSM office through Jan. 9 for lessons beginning Jan. 14. Group lessons begin the week of Jan. 21. Tuition costs, class information and registration forms may be found at uca.edu/csm, or may be obtained by calling the CSM office at 450-5755 or 450-3672, or sending an email to jannb@uca.edu or tbumgarn@uca.edu. As long as openings allow, registration may be accepted for private music lessons up through the first week of classes and later on in the semester on a pro-rated basis.
