Officials with the Conway Police Department say the 65-year-old pilot of a plane that crashed Wednesday at Conway Municipal Airport died Wednesday night from injuries.
Robert Allen of Oxford, Miss. was removed from the wreckage at 12:40 p.m. and was transported via air ambulance to UAMS Medical Center.
Witnesses reported when the plane sounded like it had engine trouble when it left the airport just after noon. The plane then reportedly turned back to the airport and crashed.

Sad
That what sounds like an engine problem and he was not able to get back around and land safely.
Good thing no one else was hurt
Prayers for his family
Agreed
Such a tragedy.
RIP Mr Allen
He probably did all he could to avoid hitting anyone on the ground (and succeeded)
Pilots are an amazing bunch...
Agreed
He may have fared better if he had tried to immediately set the plane down on a street but that probably would have resulted in multiple vehicles colliding trying to avoid his craft and caused an untold number of injuries. Instead, he used what little time he had to get the plane turned around and heading back to the airfield to avoid injuring others.
He was a very brave man who put the welfare of others ahead of his own. I pray he's now being fitted for some permanent wings.
It will be interesting to
It will be interesting to find out why the man landed at the airport in the first place, then, what services he may have gotten. Mechanical failure of the engine or bad gas if he got any. The FAA will find out I am sure but some of the answers should/could have been in the update.
Well
Then someone would berate the LCD for releasing things before an investigation had been completed. You can't please everybody.
People are known travel out of town all the time
Condolences to his family.
He very likely prevented any other casualties or damage.
Move the airport
The city really needs to move the airport out of town, away from so many homes. We have already had a lady killed because of a wreck at the airport years ago. We have been lucky so far with the bigger corperate jets coming in and out all the time.
I'm sorry the fellow in yesterday's wreck passed away, so many miles from home.
Move the airport?
That's a great idea! Someone should could on that. Oh wait...
Pretty heroic
It sounds like he had engine trouble, but still tried to get it turned around and back to the airport even with a failing engine. Houses and businesses all around that area but he took the action necessary to insure that no one else was hurt. Very sad for his family, but they should all be proud of him. I don't know much about flying, but I would think there might have been some options at his disposal that would have increased the chance of him saving his own life, while also increasing the danger to others, and it sounds like he took the noblest of the options he had.
