Those who think that Homecoming at the University of Central Arkansas is “just another football game” may not realize how other events have been and will be celebrated throughout this week.
Homecoming 2012, entitled “Pride, Power & Bears,” actually began Monday with a pep rally at the College Square Retirement Community and has already contained such diverse events as a “Halloween Social” and a canned food drive.
Highlights of different areas of the school took center stage Thursday as Steve Williams of Maverick Transportation took part in the Davis Lecture Series. Later that evening, the “Great Bear Spirit” bonfire at The Pit began the focus on the weekend football game while Gary Puckett and the Union Gap entertained at Reynolds Performance Hall.
UCA alumni are the focus of the weekend as the Homecoming Welcome Center will be open Friday and Saturday at the Buffalo Alumni Hall. Several alumni organizations will be celebrating the week with banquets, golf tournaments and receptions culminating in the “Ultimate Homecoming Party” at Centennial Valley Country Club Friday night.
Saturday will feature the Homecoming Parade, the Legacy Walk Dedication and more than a few tailgate parties leading up to the game Saturday night at Estes Field
A complete Homecoming schedule can be found by visiting uca.edu/alumni/homecoming. More coverage of the weekend will be covered in Saturday’s edition.
