Pickin', fiddlin', winnin'

Posted: October 17, 2012 - 2:48pm

Thanks to Tim Trawick for sending the following information.

Several local folks were winners at the Arkansas Pickin’ & Fiddlin’ Championships Sunday at Harvest Fest at Little Rock’s Wildwood Park.

Monica Davanzo of Conway, one of Trawick’s former students and current student of Bill Nesbitt, came in first in the mandolin contest. She also placed in guitar and junior fiddle.

Her brother, Nick Davanzo, came in second in the banjo contest.

Tim’s son, Jonathan Trawick of Fayetteville, came in second in mandolin.

Will Mouw, a Trawick student, came in second in the Junior Fiddle contest (ages 12-16.)

Kacey Williams of Greenbrier won first in the Junior-Junior Fiddle contest, ages 11 and under; and her sister, Kori, came in third.

Congratulations to these pickers and grinners.

Looking for the perfect Halloween costume?

Goodwill Industries has lots of suggestions, just hanging around their store at 2425 Sanders St.

All you need is imagination to create a “wickedly, wonderful costume.”

Goodwill suggests these ideas from their shelves:

• Tourist: Hawaiian T-shirt, Bermuda shorts and sandals. Accessorize with a camera and visor.

• Scarecrow: Overalls and a plaid shirt. Accessorize with straw, patches on the overalls and a hat.

• 80’s girl: Oversized sweatshirt, tank top, stretch pants and leg warmers. Tease your hair and party all night long.

In addition to wowing friends and family with a frightfully, frugal costume, there is an online costume contest with the prize of an $85 Goodwill shopping spree. Submit a photo of you in your Goodwill Halloween costume to marketing@goodwillar.org. Entries will be accepted now through Nov. 3. A winner will be selected at random.
