Conway Corp. employees get wage hike

Posted: October 16, 2012 - 7:14pm

The Conway Corp. Board of Directors voted a 3 percent raise for its employees on Tuesday.

CEO Richard Arnold said: “We’ve had a great year. It’s a fair increase in this economy and it keeps pace with other utilities in the state.”

“No question they deserve it,” said director Brad Hegeman.

The wage increase will take effect at the first full pay period in October.

The board also approved a mission statement in preparation for a day-long strategic planning retreat set for Nov. 27.

The statement reads:

“Conway Corp., operator of Conway’s city-owned utility systems, is dedicated to exceeding our customers’ expectations in producing and delivering safe, affordable, reliable, innovative and environmentally sound utility and telecom services while enhancing the quality of life in our community.”

Irony!

[“No question they deserve it,” said director Brad Hegeman.] Stop the presses! Somebody call the police! There is a man impersonating Brad Hegeman! This can't be the same Brad Hegeman who was on the Citizens Task Force Committee. That guy recommended that the city do away with its pay system for its employees and move to a merit pay system. That guy would never vote for an across the board 3% raise. Would he? http://cityofconway.org/pdfs/CCT/Task%20Force%20Recommendation.pdf In fairness to Mr. Hegeman, he was only one of six who signed those recommendations but I think we can all see the irony here. NOW, I WANT TO BE CLEAR. I am happy for the Conway Corp employees and the raise they are getting. Good for you. I just wish that the Brad Hegeman who voted for your raises would have been the same Brad Hegeman who was on the CTF. Maybe then the city employees’ compensation plan would not have been portrayed so negatively. And by negatively, I mean unfairly!

Unpublished

Have lived here for a long time and can still count the total time of outages in hours and not days.

yep

No complaints about the service with Conway Corp.

Of course, now that we've said that, there will probably be a bad storm today to knock out power to half the town for several hours.

Well, if a bad storm hits today...

...and knocks out power, I'm blaming Mark Vaught.

We never had storms or power outages before Mark Vaught was elected.
